3ds Max Tool Development

Super Block Animator

A collaboration with animators and myself to create a tool to make a consistent "Block Style" key frame animation, which could easily be applied across multiple shots by several artists. Not shown is the mesh deflector animation mode, which allows the artist to use vertex animation of a simple convex mesh to easily control the starting times of the blocks.

Scene Pimp

A render management system I've written at Focus360 for the past seven years. With each change in our production pipeline, functionality was added to Scene Pimp to support the latest work flow refinements. Most recent is the ability to submit to the Deadline render management system. This video shows the basic rendering functionality of Scene Pimp. For artists who felt 'Pimping' was not how they wished to work daily, there is a 'Scene Princess' and 'Scene Priest' skin option available.

Roof Builder

One of my favorites. Completely written in MaxScript, it allows the user to build a roof quickly from a selection of splines.

Elevation Builder

A collection of scripted plug ins to make modeling elevations quick and easy. It includes a basic parametric window and self installing trim. All components come complete with materials and ready to render in V-Ray.

Super Namer

Dramatically speeds and organizes scene creation by applying a standard naming convention, required modifiers and maps, optional modifiers, the material, object properties and vray properties all with one click.

HELP

Tools are only useful to an artist if they know how to use them, so easy to find and use documentation is important. I really like the single, searchable .chm help file format and it is .html based so anyone can "help" with documentation. I created tools from inside max to create the base web pages and takes the script name and icon directly from the application.
